Introduction to Linocut Workshop
Product Details

–

Skill Level: Beginner

Fee: $225 (all materials and equipment included)

Location: SECAN Gallery Gate 6, Akoonah Park, Cardinia St, Berwick

Date: Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th September 2025 (two consecutive days)

Time: 9.30 am to 3 pm each day

You will design and print a small edition of one-colour prints in this two-day workshop. The workshop will cover all aspects of linocut from design idea to finished print. You'll be introduced to linocuts and learn cutting techniques, paper handling, how to print by hand and with a press. The aim is that you will take away new skills you can continue at home with a minimum of equipment and expense

Day One is for design and carving; Day Two is for printing. The emphasis will be on developing good all-round skills for designing, cutting and printing lino. You will explore the difference between designing for a one colour print and a colour reduction print; learning how design, mark making and cutting create balance and visual strength in monotone and colour work.

You will use oil-based relief ink for this class, and I will give some helpful guidance on colour mixing and the impact colour choices have on both monotone and multi-colour prints. There will be tips on mixing and managing your ink to avoid waste. We will also cover the pros and cons of water-based, oil-based and safe-wash ink as part of the discussion. The workshop includes a comprehensive tool honing demonstration.
